The business class in Nigeria is developing a lot due to the willingness of the capitalist market to accommodate businesses from all scales – the small, the middle and the large. It is to this end that a lot of investors have been able to go into business with as little capital as they have and then fall into any of the scales above, thriving well over time to increase their status.
water

One of such businesses that is not very capital intensive is that of sachet water (or the pure water business as most Nigerians regard it) as this venture has been around and thriving for a while.
In a country of over 170 million people that is fast and rapidly developing, a lot of people now know the importance of having clean water to drink and the most accessible of clean water is the sachet water. It is sold in gross numbers in traffic, shops, to homes and the likes. There is rarely a home or restaurant that you would get to that wont have sachet water on ground to quench your thirst. this commonness does not mean that the market   is perfectly saturated and can hold no more investors though. Millions of bags are sold daily and people even run out of supply which means that your business would do just fine.

Either on a small, medium or large scale, how do you successfully start the sachet water business and gain big from it like other investors who are already reaping the good of the industry? Before we go into that, let us see some of the things that makes this a worthy investment in the first place.

         · Market:
One of the problems faced by manufacturers of any commodity is where they would get a market to appreciate their product. With sachet water, you do not need to worry about that because nearly everyone, if not everyone, takes sachet water. Its ready availability makes it a favorite among people and it could be sold almost anywhere, even in traffic.

         ·Resources:
Closeness to resources is also one of the problems that sachet water investors tend to not worry about. The land is rich with water bodies such as seas and rivers which can be easy sources of water. A well can also be constructed with a pump fixed to ensure supply whenever there is low tide in the water bodies you normally get from. If you have the capital for it too, borehole system would be suitable and eliminate the constant stress of having to go haul water from a natural deposit from time to time.
         ·High sales:
Sachet water is bought in large quantities daily and this translates to high sales for you. Production never ceases and you would get to make your money on a daily basis from supply to many customers. Customers are endless if you know what you are doing and you would most likely even run out of bags to deliver than it is likely that you run out of customers. Such is the wide expanse of people that the business caters to.

        · Stable market:
Sachet water business is rarely affected by economic change or other changes that might affect the market. This is because there is a standard floor price that cannot be lowered meaning a stable benchmark profit and the only place that the price of sachet water can go is up. It never goes down, and this is the kind of stability you want in your investment.

After all said and done, follow the steps below and you would be on your way to owning your very own sachet water establishment.

       1. Business plan and feasibility study
To begin with, you have to know what you are doing. Get a good business plan drawn up and carry out some research to determine the feasibility of your project wherever it is you want to start. While your business plan would contain the goals, vision, mission, capital, intended workforce and the likes of the business, let your feasibility study focus on the amount of like business in the area or vicinity you want to start up in (competition), the ways to move your business forward, proximity to raw materials, available markets in the area of establishment and like reasons. This would guide you throughout as you would have been better informed and prepared than someone just rushing into the business head on.

        2. Determine your capital base
Your starting capital base would inform you of a lot of other decisions that you would need to make. For example, you would be able to know the amount of workforce you would be able to have and hold at once and the source that you would prefer for your natural water. A small and medium scale entrepreneur would opt for rivers and wells while a large scale entrepreneur would have the means to go for a borehole in their establishment.
This would also help you know the kind and grade of machinery that you would be ordering to begin your business with. In short, knowing how much you have for your business would save you from unnecessary cost and huge debts.

        3. Equipment Purchase
Water processing to become the sachet water that we have all come to know and adore is not entirely a labor intensive project as machinery does most of the important work. Speak with a supplier to get this equipment at their bulk price instead of buying from a retailer at even more cost. Examples of machinery that you would need include but are not limited to water pumps, water treatment system, filling machine, light checker, conveyor, to mention but a few. From your research and feasibility study, every other thing that you need would be open to you.

         4. Licencing
To start the production of any consumables, you have to be licenced by the law else your business could be abruptly shut down and slapped with a large lawsuit. To this end, it would be wise to visit all agencies that deal with food and drinks to get licencing and approval before you start. In Nigeria, such organisation is NAFDAC. Getting a NAFDAC number would then help people better feel at ease with your products.

        5. Production
After you have gone through all the steps above, the next thing is production. Get seasoned workers who know how to work the system to handle the production of your water plant and provide them with any materials that they might need.

You can market to a variety of people and have a waiting list of customers. Why  not today?
